The bacillary population described in tuberculous pleuritis is small, and its most likely
pathogenetic mechanism is essentially immunologic. This explains why, until now, the
diagnostic identification of tuberculous pleuritis (TP) has been based on the presence of
granulomas in pleural biopsy.
